Open surgeries are conducted on an all-comers basis. Everyone who attends will be seen in turn. This system has the advantage of enabling the patient to be seen on the day he/she chooses (no arguments with receptionists about appointments) and although waiting times may occasionally be lengthy they usually compare well with those who operate appointment systems.
For those patients who habitually work late hours, the GP is prepared to be flexible with his Surgery times. If a patient has an urgent or worrying condition but cannot leave work in time for the close of evening Surgery, he/she should phone to inform of his/her difficulty. Dr Newgrosh will usually offer to keep Surgery open until such time as his patient can attend.
